Turtle Music Shaker Craft

We are learning about 'Under the Sea'. As I am a big fan of turtles, I have planned out a turtle craft for the children to make. This is a very simple craft made from egg cartons.

What you need:
  • Egg carton (cut out as many as you wish to make, each 'cup' is to make a turtle's shell)
  • Green card or Green Foam (cut into the shape of a turtle; alternatively you can use a white card and children can paint it green)
  • Some beans
  • Glue
  • Green and Yellow Paint
  • Black marker to draw eyes
Once you have painted the 'shell' green, use fingers to dab some yellow paint on it. When dry, fill the 'shell' with some beans. Then glue on the turtle shape card. And there, a cute little turtle music shaker!

Butterfly Life Cycle

The children have a great time pretending to be little caterpillars and then butterflies today. We acted out the lifecycle of the butterfly with the story that goes like this:

One day 8 little caterpillars (we had 8 children today) wake up and pop out from their eggs. They are very hungry. They look around and see some yummy green leaves. (the children crawl/slide on their tummies to a bunch of leaves) Munch...munch...munch. When their tummy is full, they go to sleep. The next morning when the little caterpillars wake up, their tummies feel hungry again. There, some yummy green leaves. (crawl/slide to another bunch of leaves) munch...munch...munch... Now the caterpillar is very full and very sleepy. He goes to sleep in his little house (children curl up and cover themselves with a scarf) one day, two days, three days, four days, five days, six days, seven days...... and then one fine day, the 'caterpillars' wake up and come out from their little houses (stretch, stand up and stretch), spread their wings (children spread out their arms holding colourful scarves) and fly. And we danced to the song:

Fly, fly, fly the butterfly,
In the garden it's flying high,
In the meadow it's flying low,
Fly, fly, fly the butterfly.

'Spider' Crackers

We are learning about Insects & Spider. We got some round crackers, biscuit sticks (for the legs), peanut butter and raisins (for the eyes) and the children made and enjoyed munching on their very own 'Spider' crackers for snack :)
We use peanut butter to stick the legs and eyes. Alternatively, any jam would do the trick.

Early Years Eduplay Program

Here at Blue Daisies, we offer the Early Years Eduplay Program (EYEP) for children from age 1.5 years old - 5 years old. Our EYEP program supports the development of the whole child. Here, the children are given time for free exploration with a balance of guided activities to spark the interest of the young child. Children learn best in an unhurried manner and through play.

Our curriculum are based on Montessori, Thematic and Scholastic 5 senses Preschool Program. Festivals and cultural celebrations are observed and we aim to conduct at least three field trips in a year.
