Butterfly Life Cycle

The children have a great time pretending to be little caterpillars and then butterflies today. We acted out the lifecycle of the butterfly with the story that goes like this:

One day 8 little caterpillars (we had 8 children today) wake up and pop out from their eggs. They are very hungry. They look around and see some yummy green leaves. (the children crawl/slide on their tummies to a bunch of leaves) Munch...munch...munch. When their tummy is full, they go to sleep. The next morning when the little caterpillars wake up, their tummies feel hungry again. There, some yummy green leaves. (crawl/slide to another bunch of leaves) munch...munch...munch... Now the caterpillar is very full and very sleepy. He goes to sleep in his little house (children curl up and cover themselves with a scarf) one day, two days, three days, four days, five days, six days, seven days...... and then one fine day, the 'caterpillars' wake up and come out from their little houses (stretch, stand up and stretch), spread their wings (children spread out their arms holding colourful scarves) and fly. And we danced to the song:

Fly, fly, fly the butterfly,
In the garden it's flying high,
In the meadow it's flying low,
Fly, fly, fly the butterfly.
